APPLICATIONS TO THE EARLY CHILDHOOD ASSISTANT PROGRAM
Applications to the Early Childhood Assistant Program at ICT Schools are accepted throughout the year. Applicants are encouraged to apply early. Applicants must submit a completed application form directly to the school.
Applicants must also submit to the College:
- One official copy of a high school transcript (or equivalent) forwarded directly from the institution attended, or proof of successful completion of the Wonderlic Scholastic Level Exam.
In accordance with ICT Schools’ Harassment and Discrimination Policy (1996), and the Ontario Human Rights Code, all applications are reviewed by the Admissions Department without regard to age, disability, race, religion, ancestry, place of origin, color, ethnic origin, citizenship, creed, gender, sexual orientation, marital status, or family status of the candidate.
Applicants must possess an Ontario Secondary School Diploma or equivalent. A candidate who does not fulfill these minimum admission requirements but is 18 years of age or older as of the first official day of classes may apply as a mature student. A copy of proof of age must be submitted with the application.
Candidates who apply as mature students will be required to pass the Wonderlic Scholastic Level Exam (SLE) with a minimum score of 14.
ENGLISH LANGUAGE PROFICIENCY
Instruction at ICT Schools is in English. Proficiency in speaking, reading, writing, and oral comprehension of English is required.
SPECIAL NEEDS
ICT Schools encourage applicants with special needs to consider a career in early childhood education. However, ICT Schools have limited resources to provide assistance to students with physical, learning, and emotional disabilities. ICT Schools examine each situation on a case-by-case basis. In order to be considered, the applicant must submit a request in writing with accompanying supporting documentation to the Registrar prior to the start of the new school year.
ADVANCED STANDING (TRANSFER CREDIT)
Applicants may request a transfer of educational credit from other institutions. Requests for transfer of credit must be directed to the College along with the application to the program. Applicants requesting a transfer of credit will be required to submit an official transcript indicating completion of the course material. They must also submit a syllabus that demonstrates that the course is substantially similar in length, scope, and learning objectives to ICT Schools’ ECA program.
If the request is accepted, the applicant may be required to take a challenge examination on a pass-fail basis. The examination fee is $50.00, paid in advance. If the applicant passes the challenge examination, the letter TC (Transfer of Credit) will appear on any transcript issued by the school.
A maximum of 50% of the applicant’s program may consist of transfer credits.
