Shirley D. Desborough, President and Founder of ICT Schools

ICT Schools has specialized in massage therapy education under the same ownership and management for over 35 years. For the past three decades, we have contributed to the growth of massage therapy as it is currently available to the public today.

As owner of ICT Schools, I am dedicated to involvement and representation in the massage therapy and holistic therapy professions in Ontario and across Canada. I currently serve or have served on the following Boards: Canadian Council of Massage Therapy Schools (CCMTS), the Ontario Council of Private Massage Therapy Colleges (OCPMTC), and the Natural Health Practitioners of Canada (NHPC).

The late Mitsuki Kikkawa, co-founder of ICT Schools, was renowned as a Shiatsu Master and creator of Suikodo®Therapy. Suikodo is an Elective in the second year of the Massage Therapy program at ICT Schools and provides our graduates with an effective advanced modality to incorporate into their practice as massage therapists. Mr. Kikkawa was awarded Honorary Lifetime membership by the Shiatsu Association of Ontario (STAO).

Over the years, ICT has taken several significant measures as a private instituition to ensure that ICT graduates would receive a quality education. ICT’s Department of Education under the direction of an education specialist ensures academic excellence in curriculum design, learning methods, the evaluation of students and teacher training. Academic excellence made it possible for ICT Schools to be successful in becoming an articulation agreement with Athabasca University, where our 2200-hour Massage Therapy Diploma program provides our graduates with the option of transferring 30 credits towards a 120 credit university degree in health sciences. We are proud to provide our massage therapy graduates with this advantage.

Since our inception over 35 years ago, our approach to complementary health care education has advocated a holistic approach to healing which honours the whole person in body, mind and spirit. We also endeavour to provide our students with a supportive educational environment. From the first contact with prospective students until graduation we strive to maintain an atmosphere of respect for persons in an enriched environment that generates true caring amongst students, faculty, staff and clinic clients.

We believe that graduates of ICT Schools will enter their professional careers with confidence as skilled therapists and practitioners coupled with a profound sense of personal caring for the wellbeing of others.

As a practicing holistic therapist and retired massage therapist, I know that a quality education with good student support and an atmosphere that encourages respect for persons is crucial to the learning experience and the quality of student life. I invite you to make you educational experience memorable by becoming an ICT student and graduate.
